Killcrown

Formed in Hastings and Delton, Michigan, Killcrown crafts a focused, aggressive fusion of deathcore, slam, and melodic extreme metal. Rather than relying on standard genre tropes or excessive studio sheen, the four-piece centers their sound on disciplined musicianship, dense sonic textures, and calculated shifts in momentum. The lineup features vocalist Steve Maple, guitarist James Alexander, bassist Tyler Walterspaugh, and drummer Dave Zaza. Together, the quartet builds compositions defined by deliberate contrast. Alexander’s guitar work balances downtuned, percussive chug patterns with dissonant intervals and subtle melodic layers that introduce atmospheric depth without sacrificing weight. Anchoring the low end, Walterspaugh’s bass locks tightly into the guitar tracks, providing the low-frequency punch needed to drive sudden, decelerating slam breakdowns. Behind the kit, Zaza dictates the band’s dynamic pacing, transitioning cleanly between rapid double-bass bursts, precision blast beats, and syncopated, half-time grooves. Front and center, Maple’s vocal performance covers an extensive harsh register, moving fluidly between subterranean gutturals and piercing mid-screams to match the fluctuating intensity of the instrumentation. With the release of their 2026 single, “DEATH,” Killcrown solidified their compositional approach: stripping away filler in favor of tight structures, rhythmic tension, and sudden releases of impact. The band’s focus remains anchored entirely in the architecture of the music itself, delivering heavy, technically cohesive material designed to hit with clarity, groove, and mechanical precision.
